My predictions for tonight's PPV.
US Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler vs Alex Riley vs John Morrison vs Jack Swagger
I hate this match. Personally I'm only a fan of Ziggler's in-ring work out of all 4 of them, and the building of this match has been sloppy at best. Does ANYONE care about Ziggler vs Swagger? What reason do we have to care? I've expressed my dislike for Riley, and don't understand why he's getting any sort of push whatsoever (Eve Torres has pull?), and Morrison has shown he can be a decent worker in the past but I'm just not seeing it lately. This is the most difficult match to call, as I can see reasons for any of the 4 to win. Ultimately I think Ziggler and Swagger cost each other the win and we unfortunately will see Riley take it and bore us with it the next few months.
Prediction: A-RI WINS THE US TITLE (and Eve will be the only one who cares)
WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Air Boom vs The Awesome Truth
I love Miz and Truth together, and the WWE NEEDS to have them win these titles, but just like Henry I don't think they're going to give it to us so soon. I think Boom retains in some sort of way that gives R-Truth more reasons to use his C-O-N-spiracy line for the next few weeks, some sort of bad ref call probably. They get their rematch over the next month or two and will get their chance then.
Prediction: AIR BOOM RETAINS THE TAG BELTS VIA C-O-N-Spiracy
Divas Championship Match: Kelly Kelly vs Beth Phoenix
If the WWE wants its fans to invest any sort of care into this newly created Phoenix/Natalya heel turn, the only option here is for a Phoenix win. Phoenix and Natalya should run rampant over this division for the foreseeable future only to have one of the smaller more popular divas pull off an upset victory at another important PPV (AJ!)
(I just cut and pasted that from my Summerslam predictions)
Prediction: BETH PHOENIX WINS THE WWE DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP
IC Championship Match: Ted Dibiase vs Cody Rhodes
Really awful development of this feud by the WWE. Ted Dibiase doesn't appear on the show the last few weeks (were they selling that he was injured? If so that would've been nice to know a long time ago), then finally re-appears and somehow has earned an IC shot? WHY exactly? Just because Rhodes has beat him up a few times? I hate when wrestlers are just given title shots when they've had a 10% win ratio in the last 2 years. I feel like Monday night someone in Corporate brought up that there was no IC title match set for NOC yet, and they scrambled to make this one up. I don't see any reason for Ted to win this unless the Marine part 3 is coming out on DVD soon.
Prediction: CODY RHODES RETAINS THE IC CHAMPIONSHIP
World Heavyweight Championship: Mark Henry vs Randy Orton
Henry is on the roll of his career, no doubt, and putting in the best Mic AND Ring work he's ever done. He's an absolute lock to win the World Heavyweight Championship.......... NOT SO FAST! While I absolutely think it will happen, I don't think it'll happen so soon and in a non-stip match. Henry will probably snap and get DQd, or we get a double countout or some other bull, and we get a rematch next month in a No Holds Barred or Street Fight or Steel Cage match.
Prediction: RANDY ORTON RETAINS THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP via DQ or Double Countout
WWE Championship match: John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio
The WWE already showed their hand on this one by confirming the Rock and Cena teaming up at Survivor Series IMO. I felt that if Cena was going to win this it was going to be to hold onto the belt until the Rock cost him it to add more fuel to the match they'll have at WM. It would be an incredibly stupid move to have the WWE Champion involved in a Survivor Series match without a title, so I'm going to go with a Del Rio retention (PLEASE) by some shady method. If Cena does win, I expect him to lose it in the next couple of PPVs.
Prediction: DEL RIO RETAINS THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP (not cleanly)
CM Punk vs HHH (No Disqualification Match)
Even though the buildup has been disappointing the last few weeks, I'm still very excited for the possibilities at the end of this because there are approximately 100,452 ways they can go. We will undoubtedly see some interference (Nash? a McMahon? another blast from the past?) and I think HHH ultimately wins thi via some heel tactics to continue the feud and give Punk something to do for the next few months without being involved in the title picture. Or Maybe Del Rio intereferes to start the Punk/Del Rio program that I think we'll eventually see.
Prediction: HHH WINS and shows his heel card (Punk was right all along)
